Hawaii Lighthouses

We were able to visit a couple of the lighthouses on the island of Oahu when there in July 2000.  The pictures shown in these displays are thumbnails.  Click on the pictures to see an enlarged view.

Diamond Head Lighthouse

Diamond Head lighthouse is on the south shore of the island of Oahu, not far from Honolulu and Waikaki Beach.  It is a private residence so you can't get inside, but you can get close to it.  The shot at the left is looking down from Diamond Head, which we climbed.

Makapu'u Point Lighthouse

Makapu'u Point Lighthouse is on the south-eastern coast of the island of Oahu.  You can park on the main road and walk a well maintained, 1.3 mile path to the light.  If you do this, do not leave anything of value in your rental car.  Ours was broken into when we were there and we lost all the bags, clothes and cooler we had with us.  We did get to watch the local boys in blue lift prints from the car, but they never caught the perpetrators so we never got to hear them say "book 'em, Dano!"
