Thomas Gratton's Yamaha FG-360

Thomas Gratton

I was first contacted by Thomas on March 4, 2018.  This FG-360 is the 58th Japanese model we know of and number 89 overall.

Hi David, I was stationed at Brunswick NAS Maine from 1974 to 1977. The FG-360 I purchased new in 1976 from a music store in Topsham, a small town close to the Base. I have the NK version. I remember paying $360 for the guitar and $60 for the case. It was the tone I was looking for and had a Gibson B45 12 string I purchased in San Diego but didn't want to travel with it. I've attached a few pic's of the 360. I played this guitar since then in all kinds of venues and all kinds of music. The only modifications of the guitar through the years was replacing the original tuner machine heads with Grovers and installation of a Martin Thin-line 332 pickup.

In 2010 had guitar luthier David Nichols reduce the neck radius  (custompearl.com) and correct the intonation. I'm also proud to say I own a Nichols guitar hand built by David in 2010. It's a Martin killer.

FYI, I met up with Willie Nelson in 1997 and he signed the Yamaha. The other signatures are almost as special.

Thanks for sharing your 360 enthusiasm with others, it's a rare bird indeed!
