I was first contacted by Jef on on April 25, 2023. This FG-360 would be the 22nd early Japanese guitar not imported into the US and number 164 overall that we know of.
Hello David,

I was searching for information on the Yamaha FG-360 and found your website (that I find very interesting).
For your information : my FG-360 carries a label with NIPPON GAKKI Co. LTD, MADE IN JAPAN.
The serial nr. is 30328250.
According to your website is was built in 1973 on the 28th of March.
I live in Belgium (Europe) and bought the guitar new in a local music store (I suppose it was 1974. I was 15 or 16 years old, now I'm 64).
At the time two versions were sold there, the Japanese and the Taiwanese.
A friend of mine bought the Taiwanese version around the same time I bought mine.
I tried all of the FG-360 guitars in the shop and found there was a difference in sound between the Japanese and the Taiwanese models.
Though the Taiwanese guitar was nicer looking (with bindings etc.) I prefered the sound of the Japanese model, so that was wat I bought.
Should I compare them again today, my choice could well be the other way round cause tastes happen to change when getting older...

The reason why I was looking on the internet for information on the FG-360 is that a few days ago one of the machine heads broke off.
It was the one on the thick E-string. I'm afraid I left to many windings when putting it on. It was a few cents below pitch and it was difficult to turn the key to get the tuning right so I used more force and it broke off.

I think I will be obliged to replace the whole set (buying a single tuning machine that is identical seems impossible to me) and I was wondering if you had any advice on that matter.

I hope you find the information on my FG-360 interesting for your research and if you could give me any advice on the replacement of the broken tuning key (I would appreciate that) I hope to hear from you.

Kind regards and sorry for my imperfect English,

Jeff Dries
