I was first contacted by Greg on October 16, 2020.  This guitar is the 90th Japanese model we know of and number 138 overall.

Hi David

My name is Greg Waits. I am a musician down here in north Texas. Justin Weekes suggested I write to you.

A few months ago I saw this FG360 offered for sale on Craigslist. I drove over to see it. I almost walked away. The owner walked out to show it to me. He was a chain smoker and I could smell the stink on the guitar, even in the open air. Two of the tuners weren't original and one of them turned the opposite direction than the others! There were a couple of scratches on it and unfortunately there was a hole on the top edge of the guitar...about the diameter of a pencil eraser.

He was asking $150. I declined. As I walked away he said how about $100. I said okay but I doubted I was making a good decision.

I let it air out awhile in my garage. A few weeks ago I dropped it off with my favorite luthier to go over. I decided to upgrade to Grovers since I didn't have the complete set.

He filled the hole and touched it up, telling me that it didn't go all the way through, and added that the integrity of the body was fine.

He had to tweak the bridge and replace a handful of frets. He then polished it up. This thing sounds amazing. It has a resonance that rivals many high end Martins I have played over the years. Beautiful.

The serial # is very hard to make out. I may try to get access to a black light to bring it out.

I attached pics. I wish I could say when it was made so you can put this on your archive list. I do know it was made in Japan. Note the headstock binding.

I will email again as I learn more. Thanks for your efforts in advancing the legend of this fine model Yamaha!

All the best
Greg
